Process for F1 VISA - USA

The VISA process is not that easy because a single mistake in the process will make you to start from the initial stage. So, we have to be very careful during this process.

VISA process is all about showing that you have enough resources for funding your education in USA. For this you need to evaluate the Immovable, Movable properties which is done by a Chartered Accountant. The report given by him is very important for the VISA interview. Immovable properties include Vacant Site, Building, and Apartment etc., which should be evaluated based on the present market value. Movable Properties include Liquid Cash (Termed as Savings), Gold Resources, LIC policies, Shares, Provident Funds, Annual Income of your parents etc., The Chartered Accountant will give a report on the entire property which should be shown to the VISA Officer at the time of Interview.(Only if he asks)

For booking the VISA Interview slot we have to sign up on www.ustraveldocs.com where we need to fill the DS-160 form (Data Survey form). We should be very careful while filling this form as it is checked by the officer at the time of OFC (Offsite Facilitation Center). After filling the DS-160 form, a Stanley form will be generated in which the payment of 160$ will be mentioned with a unique ID on it. We need to take the printout of that to the Axis bank. This $160 fee is said to be the VISA fee and is only done through Axis bank or Citi Union. Once the payment is done then the account in the ustraveldocs site will be activated in 3-4 hours. After the account is activated we can book our slot for the Interview. While booking we have to choose another date before the VISA Interview date for OFC during which they check the DS-160 and take a photograph and Finger prints of the candidate. OFC can be booked at any date before the VISA Interview date. Generally, everyone prefers the day before the interview date. VISA interview dates can be rescheduled but only for four times and also if you book the slot in Chennai for the first time then you can’t change the location to other city. So, be prepared before booking the slot.

We need to pay another fee of $200 in addition to VISA fee which is said to be SEVIS fee for the SEVIS Id which we get in the i20. This can be paid via www.fmjfee.com site only through credit card. This payment must be done before the OFC as we should carry the payment confirmation and also the appointment confirmation to the OFC.

OFC is just a process of checking for issuing the VISA. They will check all the details which we enter in DS-160 form. OFC appointment lasts for only 15 minutes. Suppose, If our slot timing is 10:30 then we are allowed to enter into the office by 10:15. The entire process will be done in 15 minutes so we can come out of OFC by 10:30. Though it is OFC wear proper formal dress.

There is no limit for the VISA interviews you can attend any number of times. So, there is no need to panic. Just prepare well about your University, Course Curriculum, Research work going at your university, professors at your department, and your city of stay in US, Under Graduation project, and future scope of your field of study. If you are confident about these topics then you can definitely crack the interview. Once the VISA is approved you will receive your VISA stamped Passport in 3 business days to the location you specified while booking the slot. If you fail to take the passport within 3 days from the Courier centre they will send the passport back to OFC. If you again fail to take it in 14 days they will cancel the VISA. So, take the passport and keep it safe by wearing a wallet to it. You have to carry that passport while going out in US.

VISA Interview is the crucial moment in our life as it decides your further studies in USA. Generally everyone becomes so tensed about the interview. Of course there will be pressure on us as it is a life changing moment but we should never lose our confidence. Confidence matters a lot in the Interview because they will only observe whether you are well planned about your future.
